DISASTER SERVICES, (501) 748-1000
Nationally, American Red Cross disaster workers respond to about 70,000 disasters annually, ranging from single-family house fires to hurricanes, floods, and tornadoes.
Red Cross Disaster Services programs support disaster relief and response, community disaster education and disaster preparedness planning. Trained disaster workers, both paid and volunteer, work around-the-clock to ensure that the urgent disaster-related needs of individuals are met in our community each and every day. Locally, the Chapter responds to more than 250 fire-related disasters each year and stands ready to respond to disasters such as tornadoes, windstorms, ice storms and floods statewide.
Strong partnerships with city, county and state emergency management officials, local churches and other relief organizations ensure that our community and states disaster response network is strong. The demand for experienced responders is great. It is a challenge to meet this need, a need the Red Cross has successfully faced for more than 80 years in Central Arkansas.
Disaster preparedness goes hand in hand with disaster response as we work to make safer communities. Safe Families materials and presentations are offered throughout the community. Church, school and civic groups receive preparedness materials. Safe Families are ready for the challenge and we are committed to delivery of this important message. All American Red Cross disaster education and relief is provided free and is made possible by the generous donations of caring persons.
Disaster Action Team (DAT)
The Red Cross provides single family emergency response services for families that have been victims of disasters. Mass Care, Canteen Service, Damage Assessment and Mental Health Care are all areas of the DAT that use volunteers.
